Go to the Billing section of the Microsoft 365 admin center, then Licenses, and select the Auto-claim policy tab. Finally, hit the big Turn on setting button (Figure 1). You can also enable the setting through Org settings in the Microsoft 365 admin center.
Go to Azure Active Directory Groups. Select the group that licenses were assigned to. On the group page, select Licenses. This lets you quickly confirm if licenses have been fully assigned to users and if there are any errors that you need to look into.
A user can be a member of multiple groups with licenses. Here are some things to consider: Multiple licenses for the same product can overlap, and they result in all enabled services being applied to the user.
Assign licenses to one user Select the row of the user that you want to assign a license to. In the right pane, select Licenses and Apps. Expand the Licenses section, select the boxes for the licenses that you want to assign, then select Save changes.
To assign a license to a group On the Assign page, select Users and groups, and then search for and select the group youre assigning the license. Select Assignment options, make sure you have the appropriate license options turned on, and then select OK.
The groups can even be synchronised from on-premises AD, meaning you can assign Office 365 licenses by adding a user to a group in AD.
