well hi there folks and welcome back to another excel tip for the day this channel is specific for all the tips and tricks you might need for Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Excel so if youre just starting out on that journey of learning all these systems and youd like to get some inside tips and tricks then subscribe to the station below today were going to be talking about sorting datasets both alphabetically and numerically as you can see right here so weve got a list set up and it looks like weve got the name of the students and additionally we have the days that they are absent so today were not going to be working out of the home tab up here but were actually going to be coming right up here and clicking on data now one thing to keep in mind when you sort whether its alphabetically or numerically is that it makes the process much easier if you have headers set up already as you can see I have two headers which again are name of student and days absent so lets look at

In the Sort dialog box, under Column, in the Sort by box, select the first column that you want to sort. Under Sort On, select the type of sort. Do one of the following: To sort by text, number, or date and time, select Values.
In the Sort cell, select Ascending or Descending. An ascending sort displays the record with the smallest value on top and the record with the largest value at the bottom. A descending sort does the opposite. On the Home tab, in the Sort Filter group, click Toggle Filter.
