Lets say for instance, you have to sign a document. Well, today you could print out that document, then you could sign it, then you could scan it in again, and then you could send it off. But thats a lot of work. It wastes paper and you need to have a printer. I dont even have a printer. Today Im going to show you how you could create an electronic signature, two different ways. Yes, electronic signatures are valid in all U.S. states and are granted the same legal status as handwritten signatures under state laws. In other industrialized countries, electronic signatures carry the same weight and legal efficiency as handwritten signatures and paper documents.
An electronic signature can be a normal signature written out using a mouse or with a finger or stylus on a touchscreen. In some cases, all you need to do is type your name and acknowledge your consent.
Open a PDF file and select the Annotate tab. Select the Signature tool. Click a plus sign on the sidebar on the right. Select the Keyboard, Trackpad, or Image to type, draw, or upload an image of your signature.
To add a signature, choose Tools from the menu, then Annotate, and then Signature. Within this menu you can choose to Manage signatures, where it allows you to add different signature options to the menu by drawing them with the trackpad or mouse.
In the UK, typed signatures were accepted under the countrys Act by the Electronic Signatures Regulations in the year 2002. ing to this Act, its not a must for a contract to consist of a written signature.
Is a typed signature legally binding? While there may be some questions about enforceability, you should always assume that typing on a signature line inside a contract will count as a legally binding e-signature.
In Law Com No 386, referred to in the previous section (see Mercury signatures), the Law Commission concluded that an electronic signature was capable in law of being used to execute a document, including a deed.
Should My Signature be My Full Name? Your signature doesnt have to be your full name. In fact, many documents ask for a signature, followed by your full name. Your signature can be your initials, your first or last name, or some combination.
