Note: Peer reviews can only be completed in the web version of Canvas. Open Assignments. In Course Navigation, click the Assignments link. Open Assignment. Click the title to open the assignment. Complete Rubric. Add Assignment Comment.
Peer reviews are assignments where students receive anothers paper, make comments and annotate, and return to its original owner.
A Step-by-Step Guide to Writing a Peer Review Read the manuscript in its entirety. It is important to read the manuscript through to make sure you are a good fit to assess the research. Re-read the manuscript and take notes. Write a clear and constructive review. Make a recommendation.
To complete a peer review, students must review the assignment and leave a comment on the submission details page [1]. Students cannot view previously submitted comments by any other reviewers, including comments by TAs or other instructors. You can also assign a rubric to the assignment.
Canvas allows instructors to post a document annotation assignment, which presents students with a document and requires them to annotate it with text, highlighting, free drawing, and comments. The student annotation tools are the same tools instructors have available to them in the SpeedGrader.
Adding comments to a peer review Within PeerMark, select anywhere on the paper to add a comment. (Optional) If your comment references a specific area of the paper, you can select and drag on the paper while the comment bubble is open to create a highlight over text. A comment icon and text box will appear.
For example, a note that you scribble in the margin of your textbook is an annotation, as is an explanatory comment that you add to a list of tasks at work. Something that has had such notes added to it can be described as annotated. The word annotation is sometimes abbreviated as annot.
Use the toolbar to select your annotation tools. To add highlight, underline, squiggle, or strikethrough text annotations, tap the Text Formatting icon [1]. To type text or add a comment, tap the Free Text icon [2]. To add color annotations, tap the Pen icon [3].
