ALTER TABLE is used to add, delete/drop or modify columns in the existing table. It is also used to add and drop various constraints on the existing table. ADD is used to add columns into the existing table.
We can create a table with more than one constraint in its columns. Following example shows how we can define different constraints on a table.
Add column constraint ALTER TABLE tablename MODIFY (columnname constraint); In the syntax, tablename: Specify the table name whose column you want to modify. columnname: Specify the column name you want to add the constraint.
The ALTER TABLE statement is used to add, delete, or modify columns in an existing table.
ADD CONSTRAINT is a SQL command that is used together with ALTER TABLE to add constraints (such as a primary key or foreign key) to an existing table in a SQL database. The basic syntax of ADD CONSTRAINT is: ALTER TABLE tablename ADD CONSTRAINT PRIMARY KEY (col1, col2);
The ADD CONSTRAINT command is used to create a constraint after a table is already created.
Constraints can be specified when the table is created with the CREATE TABLE statement, or after the table is created with the ALTER TABLE statement.
The syntax to modify a column in a table in MySQL (using the ALTER TABLE statement) is: ALTER TABLE tablename MODIFY columnname columndefinition [ FIRST | AFTER columnname ]; tablename. The name of the table to modify.
