How to Alter Medical Claim

One of my favorite movies is "The Verdict" with Paul Newman, particularly the moment when Newman realizes he can prove that the doctor altered medical records related to a patient's negligence case. While altering medical files isn't as common as depicted in movies, it does occur enough for seasoned medical malpractice lawyers to recognize signs that warrant further investigation. Over the past 18 years, I've learned when to seek evidence of altered records. In one particular case, my client was seriously injured after taking medication, and although the nurse's notes claimed she communicated the patient's deteriorating condition to the doctor, discrepancies with the time sheets and shift records ultimately revealed otherwise.
