There are two ways to edit a TIN in ArcGIS: using the TIN Editing toolbar in ArcMap and using the Edit TIN geoprocessing tool in the TIN Management toolset from the 3D Analyst toolbox. The interactive TIN Editing tools allow you to interactively edit individual features that contribute to the TIN surface.
You can add a clip, erase, or replace polygon. Clip polygons define a boundary for the TIN surface. Input data that falls outside the clip polygon is excluded from the interpolation and analysis operations. Erase polygons are also used to define a boundary for interpolation.
From the Editor toolbar, you can start and stop an edit session, access a variety of tools and commands to create new features and modify existing ones, and save your edits. To edit data, you need to add the Editor toolbar to ArcMap by clicking the Editor Toolbar button on the Standard toolbar.
ArcMap lets you edit the attributes of features displayed on your map and also the attributes contained in tables that are not represented geographically on the map (for example, a table of monthly sales figures).
Create a TIN On the Analysis tab, click the Tools button . The Geoprocessing pane appears. Type Create TIN in the search box, and press Enter to search for the tool. Double-click Create TIN to open the tool. Specify the parameters and click Run to build the TIN surface.
Triangular irregular networks (TIN) have been used by the GIS community for many years and are a digital means to represent surface morphology. TINs are a form of vector-based digital geographic data and are constructed by triangulating a set of vertices (points).
To enable editing tools and commands, you must be in an edit session, with editable feature layers, and have the data frame active that contains the edit session. When working with the topology tools, you need to have either a map topology or a geodatabase topology in the map.
A TIN surface can also be created from other functional surfaces, such as raster or terrain datasets. You may want to convert your raster surface to a TIN to add additional features, such as streams and roads,to the surface model. To convert a raster dataset to a TIN, use the Raster To TIN geoprocessing tool.
