If you are formatting a lot of text, like in a resume, using a table looks odd, but helps you organize and align content very quickly. If you want to create a document like a resume without a template, we recommend using a table.
Remove images, columns, tables, fields, text boxes and graphics so the ATS can quickly scan your text for keywords and phrases. The ATS may not be able to read data placed in images, tables, and text boxes, so its best to avoid them altogether.
Avoid images, charts, and other graphics While these may look nice to the human eye, resumes with embedded images become a garbled mess after they pass through the applicant tracking system. For instance, if you insert an image or chart to showcase your key skills, the ATS resume scanner will be unable to read it.
The ATS will usually read the columns of the table from left to right, so you will need to think about what that might mean regarding the way the text in your resume will be read and entered.
Here are some ways that you can format your resume: Keep your resume one to two pages long. Recruiters have multiple resumes to review, so ensure that yours is quick and easy to read. Have clear sections. Use a simple font to read. Add a bit of colour. Save your resume in PDF format.
Utilize tables to organize key information, such as skills or work experience, for easy readability. Create a visually appealing resume by incorporating charts to showcase achievements or proficiency levels.
For the majority of job-seekers, the best resume format in 2024 is the reverse-chronological resume format. This resume format involves listing your resume information (e.g. your work experience and your education) starting with the most recent one and going backward through relevant jobs, degrees, or qualifications.
Which resume format is most ATS-friendly? The most ATS-friendly format is the reverse chronological resume. This type of resume lists your work experience in reverse chronological order, with your most recent position listed first.
