To update the state, call the state updater function with the new state setState(newState) . Alternatively, if you need to update the state based on the previous state, supply a callback function setState(prevState = newState) .
Syntax: We can use setState() to change the state of the component directly as well as through an arrow function. Example 1: Updating single attribute. We set up our initial state value inside constructor function and create another function updateState() for updating the state.
Changing the state Object To change a value in the state object, use the this.setState() method. When a value in the state object changes, the component will re-render, meaning that the output will change ing to the new value(s).
To update the value of the state variable, we have to pass the new value to the function declared using the useState hook. In the end, the state is rendered in the UI. Lets check the output in the browser. The useReducer hook is used for complex state management.
Callbacks in render can be used to update state and then re-render based on the change.
It can be used like this: const [state, setState] = useState(initialValue); Here, the initialValue is the value you want to start with, and state is the current state value that can be used in your component. The setState function can be used to update the state , triggering a re-render of your component.
In both class and function components, when updating the state, you should not update it directly. For class components the provided method is setState . For function components, we can use the set state variable we declared when we initialized our state using the React hook useState .
Line 1: We import the useState Hook from React. It lets us keep local state in a function component. Line 4: Inside the Example component, we declare a new state variable by calling the useState Hook. It returns a pair of values, to which we give names. Line 9: When the user clicks, we call setCount with a new value.
