hey everyone welcome back to lumber capital log yard today im going to be showing you how we scale our logs this was a highly requested video so if you learn anything make sure that you give it a thumbs up and if you have any questions make sure that you leave it in the comments section down below in order to scale a log you will need a scaling stick there are three types of scaling sticks in pa doyle international and scribner which is the one that we use the way that you measure the board foot of a log is first you find its length then you match the length of the log with the numbers on the farthest end of your stick most scaling sticks use the small end of the log as the diameter this log is eight feet long so shes going to find the eight on her scaling stick and hold it so it is going through the diameter of the log it is important that you measure from the inside of the bark if a log isnt perfectly round two measurements might be necessary all scale sticks are a little differe

To increase the size of a transaction log file In the development environment, on the File menu, choose Database, and then choose Alter. Choose the Transaction Log Files tab. Select the transaction log file that you want to expand. In the Size (MB) field, enter the new size.
Large database transactions, such as importing large amounts of data, can lead to a large transaction log file. Transaction log backups not happening fast enough causes the SQL log file to become huge. SQL log files also enlarge due to incomplete replication or availability group synchronization.
The log file NEVER gets physically smaller, unless you manually shrink it. A log backup set the data inside as logically available for reuse. It does NOT physically make the file smaller. The log file is that big, because at some point is was required to be that size.
To shrink a data or log file In Object Explorer, connect to an instance of the SQL Server Database Engine and then expand that instance. Expand Databases and then right-click the database that you want to shrink. Point to Tasks, point to Shrink, and then select Files. Select the file type and file name.
To increase the size of a transaction log file In the development environment, on the File menu, choose Database, and then choose Alter. Choose the Transaction Log Files tab. Select the transaction log file that you want to expand. In the Size (MB) field, enter the new size.
Shrinking the log file may cause performance issues. Before shrinking the transaction log, please check Factors that can delay log truncation. If the storage space is required again after a log shrink, the transaction log will grow again and by doing that, introduce performance overhead during log growth operations.
Edit the file with vim: Open the file in vim with the command vim. Type / and then the name of the value you would like to edit and press Enter to search for the value in the file. Type i to enter insert mode. Modify the value that you would like to change using the arrow keys on your keyboard.
The default size for a log file is 512000 (500KiB) which can generally hold between 2000-3000 log entries but varies by entry size. The time span covered by logs depends entirely on how much data is logged. A quiet log file could contain months or even years of information, a busy log file may only contain minutes.

Shrink the transaction log Right-click the database and select Tasks - Shrink - Files. Change the type to Log . Under Shrink action, select Release unused space and click OK.
