You can start a new paragraph in LaTeX by leaving a blank line in between paragraphs. Another way is to use the command \par.
By default, LaTeX fully justifies text in LaTeX documents. However, you can explicitly specify this if you are using a different alignment method. To do this, use the \justify command.
Tab stops are set with the \= command, and \ moves to the next tab stop. Lines are separted by the \ \ command.
The \parindent command controls the indentation of paragraphs. To change the indentation document-wide, set \parindent in the document preamble to the desired value. To disable the indentation for a single paragraph, use \noindent at the beginning of the paragraph.
To indent subsequent lines of a paragraph, use the TeX command \hangindent . (While the default behaviour is to apply the hanging indent after the first line, this may be changed with the \hangafter command.) An example follows. \hangindent=0.7cm This paragraph has an extra indentation at the left.
Commands used for paragraph spacing \parindent : the amount of indentation (white space) added to the first line of a paragraph. \parskip : the amount of flexible white space (glue) placed between paragraphs. \rightskip : flexible spacing (glue) inserted to the right of each line in a paragraph.
To indent the first line of a paragraph, put your cursor at the beginning of the paragraph and press the tab key. When you press Enter to start the next paragraph, its first line will be indented.
\indent : the effect of this command depends where it is used: in a horizontal mode (inside a paragraph or an \hbox ) or math mode it inserts a space (an empty box) of width \parindent. in a vertical mode (between paragraphs or in a \vbox ) it triggers the start a new indented paragraph.
