So Ive been getting a lot of questions recently about how to better control page numbering in a Pages document. Sometimes you want to skip pages or have a cover page. So lets take a look at how to get exactly the page numbers that you want. Pages has, of course, two modes. Word Processing and Page Layout. Lets start by looking at Word Processing. Im going to create a blank document and Im going to paste in some text here to fill out the document. So as you can see Ive got a bunch of pages here. Lets go back to the top and add page numbering. You can do it in either the Header or the Footer for the page. Lets do it in the Header right in the center. Ill click

At the top of the page, before the first line/word, click on the document to place your curser. Then choose Page Layout from the top menu. Next select Breaks - Next Page. Now choose Insert from the top menu and then select Page Numbers and then choose how you want them to appear in the document.
Add page numbers in Pages on Mac Move the pointer over the top or bottom of the page until you see the three header or footer fields, then click the field you want to use (left, centre or right). Click Insert Page Number, then choose a numbering style.
Now highlight the page number at which you want to start the numbering. From the Header Footer Tools menu, unclick Link to Previous. Click Insert Page Number, then choose a numbering style.
Add page numbers in Pages on iPad Tap. Make sure Headers or Footers are turned on, then tap More Options at the bottom of the controls. In Document Setup, use two fingers to zoom, then tap the header or footer field where you want the page number to appear. Tap Page Numbers, then tap a numbering style.

Change the page numbering style In the Pages panel, select the page where you want the new numbering style section to begin. Choose Layout Numbering Section Options. Specify options, and then click OK. See Document numbering options.
