Printing in draft or economy mode uses less ink and is a great way to preserve your cartridge life and prolong cartridge replacement. If you are printing out a document like an email where print quality isnt an important factor, switch your printer to this setting!
Fortunately, you can modify these settings once for all documents you print. Choose StartDevices and Printers (in the Hardware and Sound group). Right-click a printer and then choose Printing Preferences. Click any of the tabs to display various settings, such as Color.
Reduce Printing Pressure One of the most common causes of dot gain is too much pressure being applied to the substrate during the printing process. Flexographic printing is a pressure sensitive process and excess pressure (or too little) can adversely affect your final print quality.
Select your printer model name and click Preferences (or Properties). The printer driver setup window appears. On the Maintenance tab, click the Ink Cartridge Settings icon. On the Ink Cartridge Settings window, check the Ink Cartridge drop-down to see what it is it set to.
Calibrating Inkjet Printer Cartridges Choose Start, Printers and Faxes, and you will see the printers on your system. Right-click the printer you want to calibrate and click Properties. Locate your printers calibration function. Run the calibration.
Just above the circuit board on most printer cartridges, youll find a small button. Youve seen these tiny buttons before on cell phones, phone chargers, etc. This is your reset button, and the only way to get in there is either with a paper clip or the tip of a pen (which will leave a tiny ink smudge on the button).
In Photoshop, choose Edit Color Settings. You can now enter your dot gain values obtained from your printing company. Typically, newspapers tend to be about 35%, magazines 25% and higher end glossy products are 22%. This number from your printer is usually taken from the 50% screen.
