So first of all what we will do is open a Header here, then double click on the top side and see it is open. You can see that our cursor is blinking here. Well as soon as the Header will open a new tab will appear in the ribbon above Header and Footer. This tab will be visible only when you open the header. Now look carefully, for now the height of our header is this. Now see this is the option to increase or decrease the height of the header. Now see when we click on it, our cursor is moving upwards. Go to the Layout tab and click the Margins drop-down menu. Once the different preset margin formats are displayed, select one from the selection that suits your needs. If what you need is not in the options, select Custom Margins. This will launch the Page Setup dialogue box in the middle of your window.
Add a border to some text Select a word, line, or paragraph. Go to Home Borders, and then open the menu of border choices. Choose the type of border you want:
Edit your existing headers and footers Double-click the header or footer you want to edit, or select Header or Footer, and then select Edit Header or Edit Footer. Add or change text for the header or footer or do any of the following: When youre done, select Close Header and Footer or press Esc.
Now, what if we need to change the header? You can change the header margin too. We do the same thing, we double-click the header area, we press Ctrl+A to select everything inside there. And then we drag that right indent marker about an inch from the edge of the page.
Margins are a section property. That means you cant change the left and right margins for the header or footer without also changing them for the body of the document. To work around this behavior, use an indent and aligned tab in the header. You can do so manually or by modifying the Header or Footer style.
Click or tap the page at the beginning of a section. Select Layout Breaks Next Page. Double-click the header or footer on the first page of the new section. Click Link to Previous to turn it off and unlink the header or footer from the previous section.
Open the header area by double-clicking the header space. Enter your name and then press Tab, which will move the cursor to the center of the header. Enter the date and press Tab again. This time, Word sets the cursor at the right margin.
Create a custom margin Select Layout Margins. Select Custom Margins. In Margins, use the Up and Down arrows to enter the values you want. Select OK when done.
