To change DPI in Photoshop, access the Image option in the menu bar. Select Image Size and input the desired DPI under the Resolution field. Make sure to uncheck the Resample option if you want to maintain the original image dimensions.
To minimise dot gain, using a thin capped (0.002~0.005) surface layer with a higher hardness than the supporting plate material is recommended. Mounting the plate with compressible tape or a blanket that absorbs pressure can also help reduce dot gain.
Total dot gain is the difference between the dot size on the film negative and the corresponding printed dot size. For example, a dot pattern that covers 30% of the image area on film, but covers 50% when printed, is said to show a total dot gain of 20%.
MinDot Adjust and Preview: Setting the Minimum Dot Open a CMYK (plus spot) image in docHub Photoshop. Click File Automate MinDot Preview or select MinDot Preview in the plugin panel. Set the range you want to check (in the example all below 3% Cyan) and click OK.
To see the dot gain profiles, head up to Edit. Select Color Settings to check out dot gain. As a rule of thumb, a lower percentage means more shadows. Screen printers typically choose 30% dot gain.

In Photoshop, choose Edit Color Settings. You can now enter your dot gain values obtained from your printing company. Typically, newspapers tend to be about 35%, magazines 25% and higher end glossy products are 22%. This number from your printer is usually taken from the 50% screen.
Dot gain is the difference between the output tonal value (process value or measured value) and the linear value. Without dot gain, the output tonal value would be identical to the input tonal value; in other words, the measured tonal value would be equivalent to the nominal value. = dot gain = 65% - 50% = 15%.
