This is a presentation by masters of science occupational therapy students at the University of Alberta focusing on adjusting body temperature to improve sleep. The aim is to address why core temperature needs to drop to sleep, how to induce a drop in temperature, manage temperature needs over the sleep period, and provide additional resources for more information. Research shows that temperature affects sleep onset and quality, with core body temperature dropping to stimulate melatonin production and sleep most likely to occur when core temperature decreases. Temperature drops further through sleep stages, leading to deeper sleep.
