In general terms, the PSPA is the sum of the additional pension credits that would have been determined for prior years if the RPP had provided for the upgraded benefits or additional period of pensionable service at the time each pension credit was first required to be determined.
A pension adjustment (PA) is an individuals total pension credits for the year with a specific employer.
If you separate or get a divorce, any benefits under the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) can be divided after one year. You each get half of all CPP contributions you both made in each year of your relationship.
The past service pension adjustment is the difference between the previously reported pension adjustment and the recalculated amount for the same period. This may result in an adjustment to your RRSP contribution room. The value will be reported on a T4A slip.
The T10: Pension Adjustment Reversal (PAR) slip reports the PAR amount which the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) takes into consideration to determine your RRSP and PRPP deduction limit for the year. If you receive a T10, the CRA will increase your RRSP and PRPP deduction limit for that year by the PAR amount.
The annual cost-of-living adjustment for 2024 is 4.8%.
The pension adjustment (PA) amount is the value of the benefits you earned in 2023 under your employers registered pension plans (RPP) and deferred profit sharing plans (DPSP), and possibly some unregistered retirement plans or arrangements.
Past service allows employees to get credit for employment with a company before they officially enroll as pension participants. Often, employees will be required to pay into or purchase past service benefits after some initial waiting period with the company has passed.
