One of the many proposed bills would prevent shops from repairing cars that arent properly registered. Representative Gretchen Bangert says the mechanics, she spoke to feel uncomfortable working on these cars and thats why she introduced the legislation. Be sure you include the required details, such as the name and contact details of the buyer and seller, a description of the property, the purchase price, the date of the transaction and an odometer reading if a vehicle is being sold.
The seller must complete all applicable information and sign this form. The Bill of Sale or Even-Trade Bill of Sale must be docHubd when showing proof of ownership on major component parts of a rebuilt vehicle or when specifically requested to be docHubd by the Department of Revenue.
Templates for a bill of sale are easy to find online, or you can write one yourself. They are also available at your local department of motor vehicles or county tax assessors office. Missouri also offers a general bill of sale form, Form 1957. Motor vehicles, boats, and trailers can also be listed on this form.
General Affidavit (Form 768) or a written statement indicating the vehicle was given as a gift. NOTE: The General Affidavit or statement does not have to be docHubd. Lien Release (Form 4809), docHubd, if applicable.
Take the title along with a General Affidavit to the Missouri Department of Revenue office. Youll pay the title fee and basic registration fees but wont need to pay sales tax. Additionally, you must provide a Notice of Sale to complete the process of transferring the title and registration.
You have 30 days from the date of purchase to title and pay sales tax on your newly purchased vehicle. If you do not title the vehicle within 30 days, there is a title penalty of $25 on the 31st day after purchase. The penalty increases another $25 for every 30 days you are late with a maximum penalty of $200.
