my name is Megan Massie and me and my husband were licensed as foster parents in Fall of 2010 so the transition for me and my family uh prior to having a foster child in our home to after having a foster child in our home was uh a big a big change my husband and I um had been married for uh 3 years and um kind of decided to open up our home and bring kids in who needed a safe place to be and you know our biggest worry for the every day was you know what were we going to make for dinner what were our plans going to be for the weekend you know it was just we were we just were thinking about whatever we wanted to do and after bringing a child into your home and I think after bring whether its your biological child or welcoming a foster child those intentions and those plans shift to whatever that child needs and although that was a big change for us I I I think after a ma matter of time you know we we got into that role of being a family and um attending Court hearings or going to visits

Step 1 Attend Orientation and Complete Application The orientation is an informal meeting for you to learn about the Resource Family Approval (RFA) process, ask questions and decide about becoming a Resource Family.
What experience do I need to foster? Experience in animal care, training and giving medications is helpful in becoming a foster parent, but a willingness to learn is the most important thing! Foster hvolunteers must be able to set aside time to socialize with their foster animal(s) and monitor their health.
You must be 18 years of age or older. You must provide proof of spay or neuter and up-to-date vaccinations for your current pets. You must have access to a vehicle, and live within a 40-minute drive to the shelter. You must abide by the foster agreement that you will sign upon joining the program.
Foster Parent Requirements Foster Parents must be 18 years of age or older. Foster Parents with their own animals must ensure their pets are spay/neutered and fully vaccinated. Foster Parents must have a separate room to isolate a foster animal if needed. Foster Parents must have time to care for foster animals.
The expected minimum time commitment is about 2 hours per day caring for your kittens, and a vaccination appointment every few weeks. Although fostering is a lot of work, it is a very rewarding experience. You get to help kittens grow from helpless little beings into confident, well-adjusted family pets.
Animal fostering volunteers provide long-term care to animals that cannot stay at shelters into their homes to help prepare them for adoption, and are provided with all supplies and veterinary care required until the animals can be brought back to the shelter. Animals include: cats, dogs, rabbits and guinea pigs.
Do foster parents get paid in Ontario? It is important to know that foster parents are not paid in the traditional sense of the word. Foster parents receive a non-taxable daily amount that is meant cover expenses related to having children in the home.
