An allograft, where the replacement tendon comes from a cadaver, is three times more likely to retear than an autograft. This is true no matter your age. However, the difference in retear risk is docHub only for younger patients, especially those 22 and younger.
For our flexion parameters, we recommend tensioning the graft at 20 degrees to 30 degrees unless the graft tightens or shortens 5 mm or more with knee extension. If shortening occurs, tensioning should be performed in extension. The magnitude of graft tensioning should be tissue specific.
Additionally, there is no potential for outside disease transmission or rejection of the tendon. An autograft is also stronger than an allograft because of the sterilization process for donor tissue.
