This summer, children in the Rio Grande Valley participated in a UTRGV chess camp, where they had the opportunity to learn from accomplished chess players, including Grand Master Alex Mistah, the UTRGV chess program manager. Parents like the mother of participants Savvy Fei Yan and Ivan Lopez were excited for their sons to learn from the best. The camp attracted eighteen students who enjoyed engaging in chess tournaments, solving puzzles, and various other activities. They received assistance from fellow Grandmaster Vladimir Bellows, a member of UTRGV's national collegiate chess championship team. Participants, like the current UTRGV chess team members, are improving their skills in a supportive environment.
