Microsoft XPS Document Writer (MXDW) is a print-to-file driver that enables a Windows app to create XML Paper Specification (XPS) document files on versions of Windows starting with Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2).
What Is XPS? The XML Paper Specification (XPS) format is basically an electronic representation of digital documents based on XML. It is a paginated fixed-layout format that retains the look and feel of your electronic documents.

Microsoft XPS Document Writer: Microsoft installs a virtual printer named “Microsoft XPS Document Writer.” This printer creates XPS files from documents you print to it. It's like a “print to PDF” feature, but less useful because it's not as compatible with other software.
How to Open Microsoft XPS Document Writer Files Open the XPS Viewer first. Click the Start button, then “All Programs” and “XPS Viewer” in the menu. Go to “File,” then “Open.” Browse to find your file. Click “Open” to load it.
Choose PDF if you want to save your publication in a format that can be easily shared and is used by many commercial printers. Choose XPS if you want to save your publication with even greater compression than PDF format.

Open Printers and Faxes. Right click on the icon for the XPS Document Writer and select Delete.
enable XPS windows 10 Open the Control Panel and then click on Programs. Click on Turn Windows features on or off. In Windows Feature, look for XPS Service and then click the checkbox next to it. Click OK and then wait until the configuration process completes.
Click the checkbox next to the XPS Services feature option to remove the checkmark. Click the “OK” button and wait a few seconds for Windows to disable the XPS Document Writer virtual printer and remove other XPS related services.
