Catalogue: This is the highest level of organization within a database. A catalogue holds one or more schemas and represents the complete set of schemas that a user or application can access. In essence, a catalogue is a database. Schema: Within a catalogue (or database), you have schemas.
The catalog tables describe such things as table spaces, tables, columns, indexes, privileges, application plans, and packages. Authorized users can query the catalog; however, it is primarily intended for use by Db2 and is therefore subject to change. All catalog tables are qualified by SYSIBM.
To upgrade a table to Unity Catalog as a managed table: Create a new Unity Catalog table by querying the existing table. Grant account-level users or groups access to the new table. After the table is migrated, users should update their existing queries and workloads to use the new table.
To write your tables to Unity Catalog, when you create a pipeline, select Unity Catalog under Storage options, select a catalog in the Catalog drop-down menu, and select a database name in the Target schema drop-down menu. To learn about Unity Catalog catalogs, see Catalogs.
The system catalog consists of tables and views that describe the structure of the database. Sometimes called the data dictionary, these table objects contain everything that the database knows about itself. Each system catalog table contains information about specific elements in the database.
The catalog tables describe such things as table spaces, tables, columns, indexes, privileges, application plans, and packages. Authorized users can query the catalog; however, it is primarily intended for use by Db2 and is therefore subject to change.
Its like a plan or a blueprint. A database schema is the collection of relation schemas for a whole database. A table is a structure with a bunch of rows (aka tuples), each of which has the attributes defined by the schema. Tables might also have indexes on them to aid in looking up values on certain columns.
In SSMS, in Object Explorer, connect to the instance of Database Engine that contains the database to be modified. In Object Explorer, expand the Databases node and then expand the database that will contain the new table. In Object Explorer, right-click the Tables node of your database and then select New Table.
