A notice of rent increase must contain the following: the amount of the proposed new rent, and the increase expressed in dollars or as a percentage as compared to the current rent. the length of the new lease if the landlord wants to change the length. the amount of time the tenant has to refuse the rent increase.
Mailed notice. Owners must, however, add five days to the notice if the noticed is served by mail; (for example 35 days if the increase is 10 percent or less and 65 days if the increase is more than 10 percent). The copy of the notice must include a notation of the date and place of mailing.
Here is an example of a letter to respond to a rent increase: Dear [Landlords Name], I am writing this letter to confirm my agreement of the rent increase from [current rent amount] to [new rent amount] as of [date of rent increase]. I understand the need for this increase and agree to pay the new amount.
What a rent increase notice should include The date of the notice. Name and address of the property manager or landlord. Name and address of the tenant. Last day of the current lease. Amount of the increase. Date the increase goes into effect. Timeframe for tenant to accept increase or reject lease renewal.
In Form N1 Ontario, put the date for the rent increase. Fill in the increased rent amount, mentioning dollars and cents too. Also, you must mention when the tenant must pay rent in the lease period, e.g., monthly, yearly, etc. Then, Fill in the percentage by which the rent will increase.
The guideline is set each year by the Ontario government. In 2024, its 2.5%. For some tenants covered by the RTA, a landlord can increase the rent by any amount, unless the rental agreement says something different. But a landlord can still only raise the rent once every 12 months.
