To add a heading style Type the text you want into a Word document. Select a sentence that you want to add a header to. Select Home Styles (or press Alt+H, then L), and then select the heading you want, such as the Heading 1 button.
To create or designate headings, you will need to apply the built-in heading styles in order (Heading 1, Heading 2, Heading 3, and so) to paragraphs. There are 9 levels of headings available in Word.
On the Home Ribbon, in the Styles Group, right-click on the style you want to change, and select Modify. If you dont see the style you want to change, click on the Expand icon to see a more complete list. In the Modify Style dialog box, you can make any change you want to the style.
HTML defines six levels of headings. A heading element implies all the font changes, paragraph breaks before and after, and any white space necessary to render the heading. The heading elements are H1, H2, H3, H4, H5, and H6 with H1 being the highest (or most important) level and H6 the least.
Word contains nine built-in Heading styles named Heading 1 through to Heading 9. Like other styles, you can use Headings to format text. However, the real power of Heading styles is that you can use them to create structure within your document.
