The franchise fee covers your initial training, supplies and gives you access to the unique goods or services associated with the franchise. The franchise fee is recorded at its full present value amount. On the balance sheet, the franchise fee is listed under the assets section as an intangible asset.
The disclosure document must also come with a copy of a franchise agreement in final form (i.e. ready to sign) and a copy of the Franchising Code. If relevant, you should also receive leasing and earnings information and, if they are available, other agreements that the franchisor requires that you enter into.

A Franchise Disclosure Document includes 23 specific pieces of information (called items), the franchisors franchise agreement, and various exhibits (like a list of current and past franchisees, and audit financials of the franchisor.
A disclosure document must contain a statement which confirms the franchisors solvency, together with the financial statements of the franchisor for the last two financial years or an independent audit report.
Franchise Agreement: This foundational key legal document outlines the legal rights, responsibilities, and obligations of both the franchisor and the franchisee. It serves as the governing contract that dictates how the franchise relationship will function.
