First select the object you want to apply a custom shadow to. Open the Area dialog and go to the Shadow tab. Here you can customize the shadows position, distance and color.
Select the text or WordArt that you want to format. On the Format tab, under Text Styles, click Effects, point to Shadow, and then click the shadow style that you want.
In the character Properties area, there is a button for More Options. Click that button and a window opens with additional options. There are three tabs, one of which is for font effects. You can add shadow to your text in that area.
