Register is the level of formality in spoken and written language. Every language has this idea of register. In spoken language in English, for example, you have a conversation with friends, you use very informal vocabulary you may use slang, you may use idioms, but then if you have a conversation with your teachers, you probably dont speak the same way to your teacher that you would with a friend. And in an academic presentation, its probably going to be the most formal type of spoken language. You probably dont use any slang, no idioms, and you use tons of academic vocabulary. The same goes for written language, and the written language is probably more important right now for you in this class, so well focus on this. You will have to register, however, if you wish to bring a lawsuit for infringement of a U.S. work. It costs $35 to register one work as the only author and claimant, not made for hire. Titles cannot be copyrighted. Ideas cannot be copyrighted.
Go to File WGA (Windows) or File Register Script (Mac). This will take you to a web page on the Final Draft site (make sure your computer is connected to the internet). Please note that you are registering your script with the Writers Guild, not with Final Draft, A Cast Crew Company.

The fee for a non-WGA member to register a work at the WGA is $25. A WGA member can register a work for $10. Renewals are required every five years. Only electronic filings are allowed, no paper filings are permitted.
Units and Requirements to Join the WGA To be eligible for Current membership a writer must acquire a minimum of 24 units in the three years preceding application. Upon final qualification for Current membership, an initiation fee of $2,500 is due, payable to the Writers Guild of America West.
