Now there are three basic principles of quoting The quote itself has to be surrounded by quotation marks Cite the author correctly so make sure you include the authors name, the year, and if its from a book or journal, You need the exact page number as well. The quote also has to be identical to the original, so no changing it. If you do end up changing it, there are a few points you need to be aware of, which I would explain later in the video. Perhaps your keyboard layout has been set to US International; in this layout, the accent keys ` and act as dead keys that will - if appropriate - be combined with the next character you type. You can select another keyboard layout in the Regional and Language options control panel, Keyboards and Languages tab.
Press-and-hold the ALT key and then type 0145 for the opening single quotation mark and ALT followed by 0146 for the closing single quotation mark.
The problems lies in the Input Language. To change between Input Languages, press Left Alt + Shift . This should solve your problem.
The apostrophe issue is most likely due to the keyboard settings on your computers operating system. The keyboard on your OS needs to be set at US Standard and not US International. Scroll to languages and click on languages and input settings. Check the language you are using is the one you want (English).
Single quotation marks on Windows Press-and-hold the ALT key and then type 0145 for the opening single quotation mark and ALT followed by 0146 for the closing single quotation mark.
When you see this, it means the Chromebook Keyboard has been changed from the US Standard keyboard to the International keyboard. When this happens, some of the keys will not make the symbol you expect to appear (like the apostrophe).
The apostrophe key is usually located between colon/semicolon and Enter key. You can also use the combination Alt+39 with the number written using the numeric keyboard.
It is possible that the keyboard layout has been switched by accident by using the key sequence to rotate the keyboard layout. Windows remembers the keyboard layout setting per application and you may have changed the keyboard layout by accident via a keyboard shortcut.
You are probably using a keyboard distribution that allows you to write international symbols. You may have pressed Alt + Shift accidentally to toggle it (try pressing those keys again and see if the behavior changes).
To create the quote symbol using a U.S. keyboard hold down the Shift and press , which is on the same key as the single quote ( ) and typically to the left of the Enter key. Doing the Alt code Alt +34 can also create a quote.
