For example, if you wanted to insert a single quote into a query, you would use the following syntax: SELECT * FROM tablename WHERE columnname = value\ ESCAPE \; The ESCAPE keyword tells the database to treat the single quote as a literal character, rather than a special character.
When you surround your search terms with quotation marks, you are telling the database that the words must appear as an exact phrase.
Quotation marks around single words can occasionally be used for emphasis, but only when quoting a word or term someone else used. Usually, this implies that the author doesnt agree with the use of the term. He said he was working; it looked to me like he was procrastinating. You call this filthy room clean?!
This is indicated by (1) adding a note immediately after the change in brackets, or (2) by appending a note to the end of the quote in parentheses. For example, write: He claimed [emphasis added] he was innocent or write: He claimed he was innocent (emphasis added).
A colon is used to give emphasis, present dialogue, introduce lists or text, and clarify composition titles. EmphasisCapitalize the first word after the colon only if it is a proper noun or the start of a complete sentence. (She had one love: Western Michigan University.)
The selective use of quotation marks for emphasis lets us convey a focused, impactful twist of meaning, such as a sense of skepticism, sarcasm, or subtle humor.
To insert a single quote () as a string in an SQL table, you can use two single quotes () to escape the special character.
Single Quotation Marks In fact, their only common language use is to quote direct speech or emphasize a word(s) within quoted speech (to visually differentiate between the two).
