The purpose of this video demonstration is to show you some of the useful features that you will find in oXygen XML when editing DocBook documents in Author mode. Lets start by creating a new DocBook article from one of oXygens predefined file templates. I can enter the word DocBook in the text field at the top of this dialog box and it will filter the templates. Im going to select the DocBook 5 Article template and Ill save it as DocBookSample.xml. By default, the document is opened in the Author visual editing mode and it has some information already populated, based upon that particular template. I dont need some of these pre-populated elements, so I want to delete them. There are several ways to do this and it gives me an opportunity to start showing you some of oXygenss most helpful features. Words can be added or changed to a quote by using brackets. Changes can be used to correct tense or to add necessary information. Brackets can also be used to make the pronouns in a quote consistent. However, brackets should not be used to change the meaning of the quote.
Direct quotations If you use a direct quotation from an author, you should: enclose it in quotation marks. give the author, date and page number(s) that the quotation was taken from, in brackets.
Next, we describe a new deterministic system that models quote attribution as a two-step process that i) uses textual cues to identify the mention that corresponds to the speaker of a quote, and ii) re- solves the mention to an entity.
There are three ways to introduce quotations or paraphrases: You can use a full sentence followed by a colon to introduce a quotation. You can use a lead-in naming the author or character, followed by a comma. You can also begin a sentence with your own words and complete it with quoted words.
About In-Text Citation In-text citations include the last name of the author followed by a page number enclosed in parentheses. Heres a direct quote (Smith 8). If the authors name is not given, then use the first word or words of the title.
To cite a direct quote in APA, you must include the authors last name, the year, and a page number, all separated by commas. If the quote appears on a single page, use p. ; if it spans a page range, use pp.
If you want to insert your own words, or different words, into a quotation, put them in square brackets ( [ ] ). For example: The computer lab [in the science building] was well designed.
To create the quote symbol using a U.S. keyboard hold down the Shift and press , which is on the same key as the single quote ( ) and typically to the left of the Enter key. Doing the Alt code Alt +34 can also create a quote.
To quote a source, you must ensure: The quoted text is enclosed in quotation marks or formatted as a block quote. The original author is correctly cited.Introducing quotes Add an introductory sentence. Use an introductory signal phrase. Integrate the quote into your own sentence.
For a direct quotation, always include a full citation (parenthetical or narrative) in the same sentence as the quotation, including the page number (or other location information, e.g., paragraph number). Place a parenthetical citation either immediately after the quotation or at the end of the sentence.
