Annual shots for adult dogs can be divided into two groups: core vaccinations and recommended (or non-core) vaccinations....Which Vaccination Shots Do Dogs Need Each Year? Rabies. Canine parvovirus. Distemper. Canine hepatitis.
A typical puppy vaccination schedule: First vaccination: 6 to 8 weeks – DHP. Second vaccination: 9 to 11 weeks – DHP. Third vaccination: 12 to 15 weeks – DHP. Fourth vaccination: 16 to 20 weeks – DHP.
Most dogs with low-risk lifestyles can be vaccinated every three years with the core vaccines and as needed for any non-core vaccines (most non-core vaccines require annual boosters).
A good dog shot record should contain information about the immunization. This includes the vaccine name, date it was given, when to follow up, and the veterinarian's name. This well-constructed dog shot record template can be used by the animal clinic, veterinarian or the pet owner.
Most dogs with low-risk lifestyles can be vaccinated every three years with the core vaccines and as needed for any non-core vaccines (most non-core vaccines require annual boosters).
There are four core vaccines for dogs: canine parvovirus, canine distemper, canine hepatitis, and rabies.
These will include the core vaccines, which are administered in a series of three: at 6-, 12-, and 16 weeks old. The core vaccines include the DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo, and parainfluenza). Your pup will also need a rabies vaccination, which is usually around $15—20.
Most breeders send their puppies home at around 8 weeks. If a breeder has kept a puppy for training or otherwise until 12-16+ weeks, then he/she should be vaccinated for rabies.
5 in 1 (DHPP) Previously, dogs received DHPP yearly afterward. However new research by several vaccine manufacturers has led to the approval of vaccines good for 3 years in adult dogs that have received all puppy vaccines and a vaccination one year after their puppy set.
The DHPP 5-in-1 vaccine is a single shot that is given to puppies in a series of injections starting at about 6 weeks of age and given every 2 to 4 weeks until the puppy is 16 weeks old. All adult dogs should receive a booster shot of the DHPP vaccine either yearly or every 3 years based on your vet's recommendation.
