[Music] hi in this video Im going to show you the best way to do a common task which is to add a CSV file into QGIS now the simplest way to do this is we can simply drag and drop the CSV file from our browser window but theres a few problems with this the first is that as you can see nothing has happened in my map my CSV file here does have coordinates but by simply dragging and dropping those coordinates arent picked up to create points and actually theres also a second problem here which is only visible if we go into the properties and source fields and that is even if our CSV file doesnt have coordinates then we just want to use it to join to another existing layer if we simply drag and drop the CSV file it picks up all of our fields as field type string which is fine if we only have text fields but if any of these are numeric values this is going to cause us problems if we try to do anything with them later on so clearly dragging and dropping isnt the best way to add in our
