hi everyone welcome back to my channel in this video im gonna teach you on how to create your own custom amazon machine image that is ami from an ec2 instance basically what is an ami an ami contains all the information necessary to boot an amazon ec2 instance with your custom software essentially an ami is a virtual machine template that can define custom software standard system packages or any files required by the virtual machine creating your own ami is an essential practice if you plan to build an infrastructure that utilizes ec2 auto scaling groups so if you do not know what is auto scaling groups do not worry right now we will be covering that in the later part of the videos okay so aws auto scaling groups require self configurable instances in order to automatically scale up or down to match your application requirements your ami serves as the basic unit of the deployment enabling the auto scaling group to dynamically boot new custom instances as you need them okay so amis c

A snapshot is of an EBS volume where you are able to save state and reboot with the same data at a certain point in time. An AMI is similar, but it's for the EC2 instances themselves. You cannot take a snapshot of a non-ebs backed instance, but you can create an AMI (system image) of one.
An Amazon Machine Image (AMI) is a supported and maintained image provided by AWS that provides the information required to launch an instance. You must specify an AMI when you launch an instance. You can launch multiple instances from a single AMI when you require multiple instances with the same configuration.
How to Find an AWS Marketplace AMI Image ID Go to the AWS Marketplace page and search for the image. Click on the image title. Click Continue to Subscribe button. Click Continue to Configuration button. Verify Fulfillment Option, Software Version, and Region values. ... Find the Ami Id.
Launching the instance from the snapshot is an easy process. You can create a snapshots everyday as the part of your backup process. It is possible that one day you might want to restore your instance from the snapshot incase of a corrupted Operating System or you want to revert back from an unwanted change.
You can restore a volume attached to an existing EC2 instance by creating a volume from its snapshot and attaching it to your instance. You can use the console, the AWS CLI, or the API operations to create a volume from an existing snapshot. You can then mount the volume to the instance by using the operating system.
An Amazon Machine Image (AMI) is stored in Amazon S3, but it is not directly accessible. Instead, you must use API calls or the Management Console to use an AMI.
1 Answer Go to your snapshot. Right click and choose "Create image" (assume the volume is bootable and it works). Fill out the info required. Image (aka AMI) will be created based on your snapshot and the info you will provide. Launch an instance from the AMI.
An Amazon Machine Image (AMI) is a template that contains a software configuration (for example, an operating system, an application server, and applications). From an AMI, you launch an instance, which is a copy of the AMI running as a virtual server in the cloud.
When you create an AMI of an existing EC2 instance, a snapshot is taken for all the volumes that are attached to the instance. The snapshot includes the device mappings. You can't use snapshots to launch a new instance, but you can use them to replace volumes on an existing instance.
Snapshots can be used to create a backup of critical workloads, such as a large database or a file system that spans across multiple EBS volumes. Multi-volume snapshots allow you to take exact point-in-time, data coordinated, and crash-consistent snapshots across multiple EBS volumes attached to an EC2 instance.
