In this tutorial, users are guided through a process in Photoshop to isolate a model from the background and apply a dispersion effect. First, duplicate the background layer using CTRL + J and hide the top layer. With the background layer selected, use the Lasso Tool to select the model, right-click to fill it using Content-Aware, and then deselect. Make the top layer visible and use the Quick Selection Tool to select the model, followed by Select and Mask to refine the selection, focusing on the hair. Output this to a Layer Mask. Duplicate the top layer, apply the layer mask, and hide the middle layer. Rename the layers appropriately for dispersion effects and proceed to apply a liquify filter.
