When donating blood, the standard donation is approximately 450 mL, slightly less than half a litre or two cups. This represents a small portion of the blood in a persons body, as the average adult has about 5 litres. The entire process takes just over an hour.
Canadian Blood Services does not pay donors for blood, plasma or any other kind of donation.
The reality is this: it has never been our practice, and it is not our plan to pay donors. We truly value and appreciate our donors who give of themselves to help patients in need. And we believe more Canadians will volunteer to do so without the incentive of payment.
Three-Month Waiting Period These wait-time requirements for both tattoos and piercings are related to concerns about hepatitis which can easily be transmitted from donors to patients through transfusion. All blood donations are tested for hepatitis B and hepatitis C with several different tests.
* The average adult has 10 pints of blood in their bodies, and whole blood donations are currently capped at one pint per personand thats only if the donor meets a certain height and weight requirement.
