Were going to start with the absolute basics of how you even just get a page number onto every single page in Word. Then well look at some more advanced topics like how you start your page numbers from a specific page. To follow along, Ive included a sample document down below in the description. Lets check this out. Here I am in Microsoft Word, and I want to add page numbers to this document. To insert page numbers, up on the top tabs, lets click on the insert option. Over on the right-hand side, lets click on page number and here we see several different options. We can insert a page number at the top of the page and here we can left align it, center align it, or right align it, and if I scroll down, we see a number of different options. To insert page numbers to the rest of your document: Click outside the Header section (on the first page) and go to Insert tab and select Page Break. Select the header section of page 2 of your document. To adjust header for page 2 on: In the Header Footer group, click on Page Number.
General APA Guidelines Include a page header (also known as the running head) at the top of every page. For a professional paper, this includes your paper title and the page number. For a student paper, this only includes the page number. To create a page header/running head, insert page numbers flush right.
Here is how to do it: Go to the Insert menu in the Word ribbon. Select Blank Header, the first option. Click on Page Number on the top left. Type the title of the paper in all caps. After typing the title, place the cursor immediately to the left of the page number.
The APA Style rules direct authors to start page numbering at 1 on the title page in the top right corner of the page, flush right (APA, 2020, p. 44). The page numbers should continue in that position to the last page of the document.
On the Insert tab, click the Page Number icon, and then click Page Number. Select a location, and then pick an alignment style. Word automatically numbers every page, except designated title pages. To change the numbering style, select Format and then choose the formatting you want to use.
Use the Page field code to insert page numbers Double-click the header or the footer area (near the top or bottom of the page). Go to Header Footer Field. In the Field names list, Select Page, and then select OK. To change the numbering format, go to Header Footer Page Number Format Page Numbers.
