Options are a list of flags and other parameters that can control the behavior of the wt command line as a whole. Commands provide the action, or list of actions separated by semicolons, that should be implemented. If no command is specified, then the command is assumed to be new-tab by default.
Options modify the way in which a command works. Options are often single letters prefixed with a dash (-, also called hyphen or minus) and set off by any number of spaces or tabs. Multiple options in one command line can be set off individually (such as -a -b).
A command line option, also known as a command line argument or parameter, is a user-defined text string entered in a command line interface to specify optional settings or provide additional information to the primary command. These options modify the behavior of the command or enable specific features.
Options are settings built into the command program (or script), that alter the default behaviour of the program. Some commands can be used without any options or arguments (e.g. ls and pwd ), but some commands usually requires some sort of argument, ( less and more ).
6.2. 2.1 Using Options on the Command Line Options are given after the command name. An option argument begins with one dash or two dashes, depending on whether it is a short form or long form of the option name. Option names are case-sensitive. Some options take a value following the option name.
Linux command options can be combined. The ls command is used to list the directories and files in the Linux file system. It has an l (for long) option and an a (for all) option. The a option shows all files, including hidden files.
Type help and press Enter . A list of all the available commands will be displayed. The listed is sorted alphabetically. The list is usually larger than the Command Prompt window, so you may need to scroll up to find the command you want.
Options can be added to a bash script in a couple of ways. 2 popular methods of adding options are parsing options as arguments and parsing options using the getopts command.
