In 1987, Atsuo Nakata and his team of researchers from the Osaka University in Japan first reported the presence of Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats, abbreviated as CRISPR, in the Escherichia coli genome. These refer to short, repeated sequences of DNA nucleotides found within the genome of prokaryotes. These sequences are the
