when im working with a new client that has eosinophilic disorders and is looking to try an elimination diet the first thing i do is get a sense of what their typical diet is like i want to see how many meals theyre eating a day how many snacks theyre eating a day and i also want to see if theyve lost weight recently many of our adult clients have been weight stable although our younger teens and younger adults have lost weight so when im assessing someones nutritional needs im first looking at do we need to keep them where they are in terms of providing a rough number of calories or do we need to give them more calories to enhance weight gain the other thing that im looking at is covering their key bases of healthy foods i want to make sure my patients are getting enough fruits and vegetables and typically well look at getting fruits and vegetables in at every meal either a fruit or a vegetable i want to make sure my patients are also getting enough protein some of our patient
