How do you add a codicil to an existing will?

A codicil is like a legal P.S. to your will. To create a codicil, you write down what you want to remove or add to your existing will, sign it, have two witnesses sign it (as you did with your original will), and then keep it with your will. After your death, your two documents will be read and interpreted together.

Is a codicil legally binding?

A will and a codicil are both legal documents.

Can anyone witness a codicil?

Signed by the testator (you): The testator must sign the will or codicil in the presence of two witnesses, who must also sign the document. Signed by witnesses: The witnesses must sign the will or codicil in the presence of the testator and each other. Keep in mind witnesses need to be at least 18 years of age.

Can a codicil to a will be contested?

As with a will, you cannot contest a codicil just because you dont agree with the terms or think they are unfair. Rather, you must have specific grounds to challenge the codicils legal validity.
