ATS-friendly spacing: To ensure ATS compatibility, stick to the standard line and margin spacingssuch as single or 1.15 line spacing for the body and double spacing for section breaks.
You should still maintain an easily readable font size and appropriate spacing between lines and sections. In conclusion, double spacing is not necessary for a resume and can actually detract from its appearance and readability.
Line spacing in business writing The professional business letter format suggests using single spacing for the body text, with an extra empty line between paragraphs. Likewise, the proper cover letter format recommends either single or 1.15 spacing, also with an extra empty line between paragraphs.
How to add horizontal lines to resume in Microsoft Word Put your cursor where you want the line to go. In the Home tab click on the Borders button. Select Horizontal line from the drop-down menu. Your line will appear on the page. Double-click the line to edit the width, color, and alignment as you please.
You can use solid, dashed, or dotted lines, depending on your preference and style. However, avoid using too many or too thick lines, as they can clutter your resume and reduce the readability. A good rule of thumb is to use one or two horizontal lines per page, and make them slightly thinner than your border lines.
Use 1-inch margins and 11- or 12-point font. Double-space between the date and the salutation. Double-space between each paragraph.
The recommended line spacing for resumes usually falls within the range of single to 1.5-point spacing. If you have limited experience to showcase, utilizing 1.5-point spacing can help fill the page and prevent any unnecessary white space.
