The fill light is placed somewhere on the opposite side of the product to fill in the shadows. A third back light is placed somewhere behind the subject. Backlighting separates the subject from the background. It has the potential to create the halo effect often seen in portraits.
Importance of Quality Lighting in Product Photography Accurate representation of products: Quality lighting helps to accurately represent the colors, texture, and details of the products being photographed. This is crucial for online businesses where customers rely on product images to make purchasing decisions.
To add an environment light, choose Layer New Light, and set the Light Type to Environment. In the Light Setting dialog, select Environment from the Light Type dropdown list. After Effects uses a default environment map once you set Environment as the Light Type under Light Settings.
Invest in at least two lights so that your object can be lit from two different angles. Use these lights to illuminate your product and avoid using flash. Flash photography makes products look cheap and tacky.
There are essentially three directions: frontal, side and backlighting. The three directions have a different effect on how three-dimensional your subject appears to be due to the that shadows are cast.
The 45-Degree Standard One of the most common photo light placements is at 45 degrees, meaning the light is placed at a 45-degree angle from your subject. At 45 degrees, you are most closely emulating what is referred to as Rembrandt lighting, which produces a natural and generally flattering light on your subject.
The 3 light setup for product photography The setup involves: A frontal light (Key): This is where the main light source is coming from the front, giving a flat and even illumination on both sides of the product. A side light (Fill): This is where one side of the product is lit and creates shadows on other parts of it.
In general, a 45 degree angle from light to wall will minimize shadows and glare. If you need to tilt the lamp housing, to raise or lower the spotlight, carefully loosen the knob. When loose, reposition the lamp and tighten again.
