A script written in another screenwriting program or a regular word processing program can be exported as a text or RTF file, then imported into Final Draft. Final Draft will reformat the file as a feature screenplay. Exporting as text is the best choice, exporting as RTF is the second-best choice.

Numbering a scene when adding a new scene between two existing scenes. Add a letter to your scene! If you want to insert a new scene between scenes 10 and 11, that scene should be scene 10B. If you need yet another scene after scene 10 B, that will be scene 10 C and so forth.
If a non-speaking character is being added, hit the plus icon, type in the name of the character and click away from the text field to commit the change. If a non-speaking character needs to be removed, highlight the character and choose the minus icon. Now you can add or remove non-speaking characters with ease!

To add scene numbers, go to “Production – Scene Numbers”. Choose the element you want to add numbering to, in this case that's “Scenes”. You have two choices of numbering available here, please check with your production department which of the two they want to use.
The line begins at the start of a shot and the line ends when the shot ends. In the script example below we see a conversation between Matt and John. At the top of each line the slate number and the amount of takes are written down. The first line above is slate 23, there were 5 takes for this slate.
