The easiest way to apply a formula to the entire column in all adjacent cells is by double-clicking the fill handle by selecting the formula cell. In this example, we need to select the cell F2 and double click on the bottom right corner. Excel applies the same formula to all the adjacent cells in the entire column F.
You can use AutoSum to quickly sum a column or row or numbers. Select a cell next to the numbers you want to sum, click AutoSum on the Home tab, press Enter (Windows) or Return (Mac), and thats it! When you click AutoSum, Excel automatically enters a formula (that uses the SUM function) to sum the numbers.
The addition formula is stated as: Addend + Addend = Sum. Here, addends are the numbers that are being added, the symbol (+) indicates the addition operation and the sum indicates the result. The subtraction formula is stated as Minuend - Subtrahend = Difference.
One quick and easy way to add values in Excel is to use AutoSum. Just select an empty cell directly below a column of data. Then on the Formula tab, click AutoSum Sum. Excel will automatically sense the range to be summed.
The easiest way to apply the function is to simply select a cell next to the numbers that we wish to add and click on AutoSum on the Home tab. We can then press the Enter key and the SUM formula is automatically inserted.
Fill data automatically in worksheet cells Select one or more cells you want to use as a basis for filling additional cells. For a series like 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, type 1 and 2 in the first two cells. Drag the fill handle . If needed, click Auto Fill Options. and choose the option you want.
Create a calculated column Create a table. Insert a new column into the table. Type the formula that you want to use, and press Enter. When you press Enter, the formula is automatically filled into all cells of the column above as well as below the cell where you entered the formula.
It has no meaning. The + after = is superfluous. It is a carryover from Lotus 1-2-3, where formulas can be entered as +123+456 instead of =123+456. Excel permits that form as well.
You just do the following: Enter a formula in the top cell. Select the cell with the formula, and hover the mouse cursor over a small square at the lower right-hand corner of the cell, which is called the Fill handle. Hold and drag the fill handle down the column over the cells where you want to copy the formula.
Keyboard Shortcut. The SUM function is easily inserted into a workbook with the Alt+= shortcut.
