Im going to investigate how to set up an element library that will include doublet information the standard element library now includes a miscellaneous field which can be used to add additional information to the terms previously stored in the element library and the idea is that when we look at an entry such as this Sylvan to P we can add a term here which is going to allow lettuce automatically create doublet pairs so to begin with what Im going to do is add the doublet information by first looking at a spectrum where Ive already fitted the data Ive got a pair of component Peaks and if I go to this component doublet its going to correspond to these two that Ive got it set up so Ive got a three hives peak and a 1/2 P and Ive also got a line shape that is associated with these parameters and thats doublet what Ive done is Ive introduced constraints for the position the fourth half maximum and the area that should be correct for this particular 2p doublet so having selected

The most prevalent electron spectrometer for XPS is the hemispherical electron analyzer. They have high energy resolution and spatial selection of the emitted electrons.
Dear daniwalia, Carbon is the material which always present in atmosphere, so nano leval layer is deposited on every type of samples, if you are not performing in clean room environment. Thats why we use the cabon as a calibrating element during the xps spectra.
The binding energies of the numerous photoelectrons emitted from a surface sample are used as a "fingerprint" to identify elements present. Chemical shifts in XPS spectra are observed when an element enters a different bound state, which results in changes in the binding energy of core electrons.
How to interpret the data it generates Peaks from the XPS spectra give relative number of electrons with a specific binding energy. The shorter the peak, the less electrons represented. ... The greater the binding energy, the greater the attraction of that electron to the nucleus.
XPS can measure elemental composition as well as the chemical and electronic state of the atoms within a material. XPS spectra are obtained by irradiating a solid surface with a beam of X-rays and measuring the kinetic energy of electrons that are emitted from the top 1-10 nm of the material.
XPS is useful for quantitative analysis of surface composition and can detect all elements with the exception of hydrogen and helium through the detection of the binding energies of the photoelectrons.
Hydrogen has no core electrons and, therefore, core–electron XPS is impossible. The H 1s electrons are valence electrons and as such participate in chemical bonding. Any signal from hydrogen would overlap with signals from excitation of valence electrons from other surface atoms.
Quantitative XPS is the process of comparing two or more intensities in XPS spectra to determine the amount of material at the surface of a sample. These intensities may be from the same peak or different peaks in the same spectrum or the same set of peaks in different spectra.
Interpretation of XPS spectra. Adventitious carbon contamination is commonly used as a charge reference for XPS spectra. C1s spectrum for contamination typically has C-C, C-O-C, and O-C=O.
In XPS spectra of materials, all binding energies should be corrected using a standard. Usually, carbon element with binding energy of C 1s = 284.6 eV is used as an internal standard. You should shift the binding energies of your samples based on this value.
