It does not constitute a contract between the issuing insurer, authorized representative, or producer and the certificate holder. You should also never edit a COI.
The additional insured endorsement on a Commercial Auto Insurance policy will cover anyone else who may drive company vehicles without giving a specific name. It is possible to have this type of additional insured status on other types of insurance policies as well.
If you want to be added as an additional insured, you need to request that the vendor adds additional insured coverage to the policy by adding an endorsement form. Adding an additional insured to a policy does not have to be complicated, but you do have to request this in an agreement or contract.
To add an additional insured to an insurance policy, consult an Insureon insurance agent and review the policy, identify whether an additional insured can be added, and assess the level of coverage the additional insured is requesting. Youll typically need to fill out an additional insured endorsement form.
On COIs, additional insured entities are indicated in these two ways: By an X or checkmark in the ADDL INSR box on the General Liability section of the COI, and/or the additional insured entity is named in the DESCRIPTION OF OPERATIONS section.
An additional insured is somebody who benefits from the coverage of anothers policy; this includes the ability to make claims under the policy. A certificate holder can request to be an additional insured on the policyholders policy and this would be shown in the COI.
In addition to coverage levels, the certificate includes the policyholders name, mailing address, and describes the operations that the insured performs. The address of the issuing insurance company is listed, along with contact information for the insurance agent or the insurance agencys contact person.
In order to add an additional insured to a CGL insurance policy, the named insured should contact their insurance provider to typically add the name and address of the individual or entity. The cost to add a party as an additional insured will vary depending on the provider, although it may be as little as $50.
