Yes, you can attach standalone Software Assurance coverage to an OEM/Retail product license, but you must do so within 90 days of purchasing the OEM/Retail (full packaged product) product license. This option is available only for particular products through particular Volume Licensing programs.
You will continue to be eligible to upgrade to any new versions of your products that were released within the three-year period of the benefit, but you will not be eligible for upgrades to versions that were released later.
Customers with Software Assurance pay an annual fee of 25% of the volume license fee for server products and 29% for desktop products in order to gain upgrade rights to products.
Software Assurance is only available through Volume Licensing and is purchased when you buy or renew a Volume Licensing agreement. It is included with some agreements and is an optional purchase with others.
Software Assurance is a subscription offered in addition to Microsoft software licences. It includes extended licensing rights: upgrade rights, license mobility, unlimited virtualisation, and more, depending on the product.
Software Assurance cannot be added back in after the fact unless you make use of the 90-day window to add SA onto OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) purchases. (2) You do not need SA on your desktop applications when streaming through RDS/Citrix/VDI.
Theres no option to add Software Assurance (SA). CSP Perpetual requires a one-time upfront purchase in contrast to traditional CSP being a monthly subscription model.
What does Software Assurance do? Microsoft Software Assurance provides licenses for version upgrades. Software Assurance customers automatically receive licensing rights that will allow them to deploy new software versions whenever they are released.
Under a traditional EA, when a license or subscription is added to the agreement, it is covered all the way through the end of the agreement. With the EAS, if a license or subscription is added mid-year, that license or subscription is covered only through the next anniversary.
