its difficult to move through a long document in Word which is why were going to go ahead and add a cross-reference to make it easier for people to get to particular points in our document I want you to think of a cross-reference like a hyperlink on a web page if you click on it it will take you somewhere else and were going to reference other things that are already in the document now Im going to scroll down here a little bit and youll see right here I have already staked out where I want that cross-reference see page and what I want is for people to go to page 7 now I can simply type in the number 7 and then they would have to scroll down there and find it on their own but by putting in a cross-reference theyll be able to click on it and itll take them right there let me show you what I mean Im going to go up here to my references tab hey you go figure and youll see right here I have cross reference let me click on that and from here this little drop-down youll see the di

To enter a Type go to a reference to the item in the document text, right click on it, click on Bibliography Entry, an Edit Bibliography Entry dialogue comes up, click on Edit and a Define Bibliography Entry dialogue come up in which the Type can be selected from a drop down list. Click OK and click modify.
Adding a reference (citation) into a document Place the cursor where you want the reference to appear. From the main menu, choose Insert Indexes and tables Bibliographic entry. In the Insert Bibliographic Entry dialog box, shown below, choose From bibliography database at the top of the dialog box.
Position the cursor in the text where you want to insert a cross-reference. Choose Insert - Cross-reference to open the dialog, if it is not open already. In the \Type\ list, select Insert Reference. In the \Selection\ list, select the target that you want to cross-reference.
Insert the cross-reference In the document, type the text that begins the cross-reference. On the Insert tab, click Cross-reference. In the Reference type box, click the drop-down list to pick what you want to link to. In the Insert reference to box, click the information you want inserted in the document.
To create the reference with the mouse, both spreadsheets need to be open. Select the cell in which the formula is going to be entered. Click the = icon next to the input line. Switch to the other spreadsheet (the process to do this will vary depending on which operating system you are using).
Place the cursor in your document where you want the character to appear. Click Insert Special Character to open the Special Characters dialog box. Select the characters (from any font or mixture of fonts) you wish to insert, in order; then click OK.
To insert an existing object: Select Insert Object OLE object from the main menu. In the Insert OLE Object dialog box, select Create from file. To insert the object as a link, select the Link to file checkbox. Click Search, select the required file in the file picker window, then click Open.
