The C in a circle is the normal copyright symbol and can be applied to most types of work. The ℗ P in a circle, is referred to as the sound recording, phonorecords, phonogram or phonographic copyright symbol. Sound recordings have a separate copyright that is distinct from that of the underlying work.
In Windows, you can press Alt + 0169 on the numeric keyboard. On a Mac, insert the copyright symbol by pressing Option + G.
The copyright symbol is usually tucked away at the edge or a corner of a published or produced material thats considered visually perceptible either directly or with a machines help.
Copyright and trademark symbols can also be added by using a keyboard shortcut. For example: To insert the copyright symbol, press Ctrl+Alt+C. To insert the trademark symbol, press Ctrl+Alt+T.
File Options Proofing. In the AutoCorrect Options section, click AutoCorrect Options. Find and click on the entry for the copyright symbol. Press Delete and exit to exorcise that demon from your Autocorrect list.
The Alt code keyboard shortcut for the copyright symbol is Alt+0169; press and hold the Alt key while typing 0169.

Mac (Macbook Pro, iMac) Simply press and hold the Option key then, press G. Again, heres the shortcut: Option + G.
Use of the copyright symbol is more similar to use of the trade mark symbol, as work does not need to be registered in order to use it. You can place the copyright symbol on any original piece of work you have created.
